We met up with a friend who happened to be in Hanoi at the same time. He is one of those travellers that does all his research before hand. That's how we came upon this restaurant that only served this fish specialty. It was simplicity at its finest. Too hungry then to pay attention to the name of this place but can easily find out from our friend :-)
Yes Ha Long Bay is touristy but it's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and you SHOULD see it once in your lifetime. We did the typical overnight cruise where they serve you dinner and let you explore the caves. Our recommendation is to just do the one night. Once you see one cave, you've pretty much seen it all. You know what you shouldn't miss though? The sunset and the sunrise while on the cruise. That memory of watching your day begin and end is absolutely spectacular.
Hanoi is CHAOTIC but strangely enough, it's more like organized chaos. There are motorbikes everywhere. If you wait for one to stop for you to cross a road, then you'll never cross! A little overwhelming at first but you get used to it very quickly. That's the thing about life. When you're left with no choice, you just do what you got to do and it all works out!
It's chaotic all around but when it's your first trip with your partner, all you feel is this calmness and beauty that surrounds you. No it's not corny, it's actually the memory that I (B) have every time I think about Vietnam.
We captured this really beautiful moment. They're obviously new graduates. From what we don't know. All we know is that these kids have started a new chapter in their lives.
Vietnamese water puppets. These skits are performed in a pool of water and make references to traditional folklore.
